Interview with Desi Daughters, USA, published on July 3, 2025

In all my years I had never actually managed to speak to an audience of Asian women. Desi is the term used to describe South Asian. It was a real highlight to be interviewed by this huge community of women who are everybody’s child and adult daughter. To share my story and listen to people’s own experiences was the closest I had come to being able to speak to an audience I could relate to. I felt honoured to be interviewed because this is exactly the kind of audience that I want to get talking about organ donation to. It’s this demographic of people in the Asian community who are like me. I want them to tell their mothers what donation means, and for their mother’s to talk to the family about it at dinner, at a community centre, when they are planning their funeral because for my Mum, she really needed a donor from someone from our background. I hope that this many years later that people are talking more.
